Recently, I attended a public forum to hear residents' concerns about the proposed Hub City Wind Farm. It was great to see the strong participation of farmers and landowners who oppose this project. I want to commend their powerful civic engagement and grassroots organization to stop this fundamentally flawed proposal and advocate for their communities.
We should not have wind turbines, or solar panels for that matter, on our farms and rural landscapes. Concerns about diminished property rights and declining property values are entirely legitimate. Beyond that, we should not heavily invest in energy sources that cannot reliably meet demand. When the wind is not blowing and the sun is not shining, energy is not produced, putting rural Wisconsinites at risk of supply shortages and higher energy costs.
The federal subsidies and tax cuts that reward utility companies for these projects must end. If elected to Congress, I would support legislation that eliminates handouts for green energy and work to advance policies that promote affordability and strengthen America's energy dominance through expanded natural gas, coal, and nuclear energy production.
Thank you to the activists in Marathon County for standing up for Wisconsin's rural heritage and natural landscape. I stand with you.
